Winchester (nw) VA
While the Allison moisture has finally left the US, it's affects will
take months to cleanup in some areas. I heard that one NASA scientist
estimates enough water fell from the storm that it equals a year's worth
of drinking water in the US!
In VA, little flooding was reported. My county was the only one to have
a flash flood warning Saturday afternoon from the Sterling (Wash/Balt)
NWS office. That's when a training thunderstorm started to drop radar
estimated 2-3" per hour just north of town. The final total there was
estimated over 4".
My total for Fri/Sat was 1.09". During a 2 hour period Sat i had .89",
including peak rain rates of almost 1" per hour.
Before the moisture arrived, temps rose to near 90 Wed, and were well
into the 80s Thur, Fri, & Sat, with dewpoints in the mid 70s. AQI was
code orange last Wed, & code yellow Thur.
Max rain rates by VA radar sites: Begin times are noted. End time was
10pm Sat.
Blacksburg 2.70" (8am Sat)
Sterling<Wash/Balt>: 4.10" (6:30am Fri)
Wakefield: 15.00" (5am Wed)
Only VA Station with record daily rainfall was Wash National Apt.
Saturday's total of 1.64" broke the previous mark set in 1932 (1.33").
