Winchester VA
Overnight rains brought .15" for the day. The sky remained cloudy here ,
breaking a bit by mid afternoon. The sky was mostly sunny then mostly
clear between 4:30 & 10pm. Then it clouded over again after 10pm.
Photo: this cloud was elongated along the Blue Ridge Mnts about 3pm.

I went outside about 8:30pm to look for the aurora. Haze & city light
pollution obstructed the view to the north & northwest. The moon was
bright in the WSW sky. So i looked to the SE. I think what i saw was
cirrus illuminated by the moon, but if i did see it, was _very faint_.
Friday night, aurora was reported as far south as CA!! Details &
galleries at http://www.spaceweather.com/ .I just hope we have a few
clear nights here while that huge sunspot (22 times Earth size Fri aft)
spins on the sun.
Fri low was 37.1º (5:01am), the high 54.6º (3:50pm). The PWG was
19mph at 1:19pm, the low windchill was 18º at 12:10am.
Once again, the last 15 yards of the backyard are either soggy or has
standing water. But despite the almost as heavy rainfall, in a shorter
period, on wet ground, it was the 1st time that the basement stayed dry
during a hefty soaker.

I was outside in the moderate rain Thur afternoon, and realized that two
drain sprouts were dumping water next to the house. I moved the drain
pipe on one, & added a drain pipe to a 2nd. [We had added them last
fall, but last Wed rain was the 1st test since we had them.]
As typical in spring, we were about the last to clear in nw VA. However,
as this photo shows, the southern 2/3 of the state had plenty of sun.
There temps reached well into the 60s, including Charlottesville which
was at 68º for 3 hours. In the mountains, Shenadoah Valley, & northern
VA, temps still reached the mid 50s. To the north in MD & PA, cloudy
skies remained until almost or after dark, holding temps in the 40s.

The forecast is for temps into the 60s from Wed on next week, with the
long range NWS forecast suggesting above normal temps until mid April
<YEA>. Norm here is 38/61 now.
The vidcap below shows amounts given by WRC weather watchers for the
storm total, with meteorologist Bob Ryan in the shot. {I was too busy
dealing with the Yahoo! webtv mail problem to send a report.} My storm
total is 1.28".
