I said a few weeks ago that i thought pollen was in the air. Then it got
colder, & it seemed that the local tree buds got zapped by the freeze.
However, i checked the buds on some of my backyard trees, & many seemed
to be holding thier own,

The Baltimore station WJZ ch 13 reported a moderate tree pollen count of
18 (i think). Meteorligist Bob Ryan in Washington DC also confirmed of a
pollen count, but did nt have a number. His source said birches are
among the bloomers now.
I know that our pollen count typically begins in late March, so i will
start having numbers in 2-4 weeks.
My mean temp for Feb 2001 was 40º, which averages to 7º above
normal. In Washington DC, it was 3.5º above normal. The reason for the
disparity: I reset the daily readings at midnight. The NWS resets at 7am
(1200 z). i had 6 nights that i recorded the daily high temperature
before 7am!
For the month of Feb, 11 times it was 60º or better, with 1 record, &
1 record tie.
The melted precip equalled 1.1", or off by almost 50%. The snowfall
was only 5.1", or about 1/3 normal.
