Winchester VA
I have much busier than i thought i would be the last several days, and
therefore my photopoint album of Thursdays (2-22) snow is a few days
late. Now i will set the stage:
===
Wed 2/21
Cold air slips in after an early am cold front.
The high of 55.4º was at 12:27am. The temp fell slowly during the day,
into the upper 30s before dark. The evening low was 23.1º at 11:32pm.
The barometer rose from 30.05 to 30.41". PWG was 30mph, at 12:37pm.
Skies cleared during the am, & only a few cirrus remain on the southeast
horizon at sunset.
In the Washington Dc region, the cold air was moving in slowly. A "far
northwestern suburb", Middleburg MD was down to 41º just before 11am.
At the same time, Waldorf MD, an outer southern suburb was 57º. The
two towns are 60 miles apart.

Thurs 2/22
Snow began falling about 9:30am. Heavy snow fell between 10:45am and
noon. Lt/mod snow continued until 6pm. Snow flurries ended about 7pm.
Many school systems anticipated a snowfall beginning around midday, &
announced a late am dismissal, even before it started snowing. Instead.
the heaviest snow fell at midday.
The I-95 wreck was labelled one of the biggest east coast pileups ever.

Fri 2-23
The meltdown: After a cloudy start, skies cleared mid am, followed by a
mostly sunny day. Temps were in the 20s until 10am, and as a result, all
schools were closed.
After a low of 21.6º at 2:25am, the temp rose to 45.0º at 2:42pm. A
PWG was 17mph at 5:28pm. The BP rose from 30.11 to 30.45".
And by evening, there was not much left of the snow; only about an inch
tops, and about 2/3 coverage in shaded areas.
