We finally got a few sprinkles today in South Southwest Florida; negligible effect on drought and fire index conditions. Fires have occurred in Charlotte, Lee, and Collier Counties. Fire indexes are in the high 600's approaching the very dangerous 700 levels. Lehigh Acres in eastern Lee County was the scene of a fire last night which forced evacuations from homes and destroyed several homes. Unfortunately, it is believed this fire was started by arson ( a big problem down here during fire season).
There were no lightning strikes sighted or noted to be the cause. It is hoped higher amounts of rain may occur during this week. Richard Macomber-Cape Coral (Lee County).
