[STORMREPORTS] WNC Report

Several counties in Western NC reported minor wind damage with the passage of the front and associated storms. Not a lot of thunder and lightning, but very gusty winds and heavy rain. Some trees fell here in Buncombe and surrounding Haywood, Henderson, Transylvania, and Swain counties (mostly south and west of my area) but no reports of serious damage. The peak wind gust I recorded was 44 mph at 8:55pm. Officially, hourly obs reported a peak gust of 38 at 9pm at the airport on the Henderson-Buncombe county line. Since then, we have still had very strong winds behind the front with hourly obs from 1am until 9pm Saturday showing sustained winds from 15 to 28mph and gusts from the mid 20s to mid 30s. Only in the past two hours has the official ob been under 15 mph. Expectin diminishing winds tonight and after Friday's high of 72, we should be around 21 tonight. Currently at midnight, the temp is 28 with winds 15 gusting to 23mph
