Winds aligning from the surface up to 500 mb with strong downward vertical
velocities, allowing momentum transfer to the surface resulting in very
strong winds for tonight. Strong winds expected to occur downwind of the
mountains to the north and east of L.A.
According to the NWS San Diego office, wind gusts expected to locally
reach above hurricane force later tonight. I think this should happen
mostly after about midnight tonight, more likely after 2 or 3 a.m.
Similarly strong winds will probably happen in the L.A. forecast area,
especially through canyons. Will keep tabs on Fremont Canyon where some
of the strongest winds around here will probably show up as usual for a
northeasterly wind situation.
I'll report tomorrow on what ends up happening tonight.
