The USA Disaster Situation Report
A freeze warning is in effect tonight for all of south Florida
except the immediate east coast and the Naples area. Lighter winds
and mostly clear skies will allow low temperatures tonight to drop
to freezing or lower over interior and western areas of south
Florida. Temperatures near or below freezing can be expected with
temperatures possibly even briefly falling into the upper 20s over
some of the colder interior locations. Temperature duration's at or
slightly below freezing in colder locations are expected to be about
five to six hours between 1 am and 7 am Monday morning.
Growers and persons with tender tropical vegetation should take extra
precautions to protect plants from the cold temperatures. Pets
should be moved indoors if possible...or provided sufficient outdoor
shelter.
Areas of specific concern include:
Palm Beach County...areas along and west of the Florida Turnpike.
Broward County...areas along and west of I75 and the Sawgrass
Expressway.
Miami-Dade county...areas along and west of the homestead extension
of the Florida turnpike.
Collier county...areas along and north of US41 east of Naples.
Glades and Hendry Counties...all areas.
In recent years...cold weather has caused more deaths in Florida than
hurricanes have. The elderly are especially endangered by cold
temperatures. Check on a relative...friend or neighbor. Other
hazards on cold nights include fires from space heaters and the
threat of carbon monoxide poisoning from using gas grills indoors.
The use of space heaters or gas grills is discouraged.
