in Plant City, centered on 2:00 pm EST was 71 to 53 deg, the 48 hour change
71 to 48 deg. This represents arctic air surge #2, surge #3 arrives on
Monday 1/1/01 and surge #4 arrives on Wednesday 1/3/01. Minimum temperatures
on Thursday morning 01/04/01 will approach January 1985 levels. The
statewide minimum temperature this morning was 22 deg at Geneva, followed by
25 at Defuniak Springs in the north. On the peninsula the freeze line
dropped as far south as north central area with 28 at Hawthorne and 32 at
Umatilla, here in Plant City it was 37. There is a fair chance of a mixture
of snow, ice pellets and freezing rain across the north on Monday and
Tuesday 01/01-02/01. There is a small chance that inland central area's
could see orographic snow showers, with lake effect type snow showers along
the west coast of Florida, from Tampa Bay northward.
Tentative minimum temperature forecast for Sunday 12/31/00, inland rural
area's only.This event will be an advection freeze with a north wind at 5-15
mph. Another significant freeze is expected on Monday Morning 01/01/01.
Actually it appears that most of the rural central peninsula will face a
nightly freeze threat at least through Sunday 01/07/01.
