Old man winter continues to gain a toehold in Florida on Tuesday 12/19/00,
as a strong cold front continues to move across the state with rapidly
falling temperatures and a variety of precipitation types. As usual the
local NWS offices and TV Meteorologists have been busy with there chamber of
commerce weather forecasts and are trying to hide the deer in headlights
look on their faces.
Sleet and snow is a good bet across the non peninsula portion of north
Florida today, in a triangle from Tallahassee, Jacksonville and Gainesville.
As WE already forecasted, a significant freeze will occur tonight and
tomorrow night on the peninsula. Sub freezing temperatures will occur across
the south central peninsuala, with a hard freeze into portions of the
central peninsula and of course across the north.
Sleet did fall across northern areas this morning with subfreezing
temperatures into the north central peninsula.
At this moment the Christmas holiday period is shaping up to be very cold
with a chance of a white Christmas for the first time since 1989.
