After a month of below normal temperatures here in Florida, that saw
repeated hard freezes across the north and a couple of light to moderate
freezes across the inland rural areas of the central peninsula, record
warmth with plenty of humidity and much needed rainfall have returned. Most
are aware of the 6-20" that fell in south Florida and appreciable rainfall
amounts also fell across the central peninsula yesterday, including 1.32" of
much needed rainfall here in Plant City. The culprit a welcomed 592 dcm
kinda maybe heat ridge east of the state coupled with the remnants of a late
season tropical disturbance.
This Tuesday morning 12/12/00 I observed a minimum temperature of only 69
deg under cloudy, showery skies with a sw wind. This ties the record for the
date going back to 1947. Minimums temps.for 12/11 were 68 deg, 12/10 61 deg,
and 12/9 65 deg. A similar warm event occured in December 1983 and 1989 just
prior to record breaking arctic airmasses came screaming into the state.
