Situation Report for June 23, 2000
National Temperature Extremes
High Thu...114 At Death Valley CA
Low Fri...34 At Redmond OR

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico...

Satellite images indicate that a vigorous westward moving tropical wave is
located a few hundred miles south of the Cape Verde Islands. Although this
system is near a tropical depression status...and is being closely
monitored....climatology suggests that it is too early in the season for
significant development in that area.

A large area of cloudiness and showers associated with a tropical wave
interacting with an upper level trough has developed over the western
Caribbean. This activity is expected to spread over Honduras and Nicaragua
today and Saturday.
