NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS LEVEL III
CURRENT SITUATION:
New large fires were reported in the Southwest, Southern, Eastern Great
Basin, Rocky Mountain, and Southern California Areas. Initial attack
activity was moderate in Utah, Colorado, Florida and the Southwest. The
National Interagency Coordination Center processed orders for helicopters,
airtankers, an air attack plane, infrared aircraft, radio equipment,
caterers, shower units, a commissary unit, crews, and miscellaneous
overhead. Very high to extreme fire indices were reported in Arizona, New
Mexico, Utah, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, California, and Mississippi
SOUTHWEST AREA LARGE FIRES:
An Area Command Team (Harbour) is assigned to manage the large fires in
northern Arizona.
VIVEASH, Santa Fe National Forest. A Type I Incident Management Team
(Bateman) is assigned. This lightning caused fire is burning in heavy
fuels eight miles northeast of Pecos, NM. Fire behavior included
torching, crowning, and spotting up to .5 mile ahead of the fire. Fuels
are extremely dry and no precipitation is forecasted in the near future.
Current threats are to various summer and year-round homes.
PUMPKIN, Kaibab National Forest. A Type II Incident Management Team
(Anderson) is assigned. The fire is 25 miles northwest of Flagstaff, AZ.
Strong winds and low relative humidities contributed to active burning
conditions within the Kendrick Wilderness Area. The fire reached the fire
lines with heavy spotting occurring on the east side but crews were able
to contain the spots. Burnout operations around private property are
continuing.
CERRO GRANDE COMPLEX, Bandelier National Park. An Area Command Team
(Edrington) and a Type II Incident Management Team (Praytor) are assigned.
No new information was reported.
SOUTHERN AREA LARGE FIRES:

grass and swampland at the Holey Land Wildlife Management Area, 40 miles
northwest of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The east side of the fire is currently
the most active. Monitoring by fixed wing aircraft will continue.

the table below are totals for all fires in the complex. Several of these
fires were previously reported as contained but they are currently
reburning.

UT. It is burning in pinyon-juniper fuels in the Book Cliff area.
FISHER, Moab Field Office, BLM. This lightning caused fire is 20 miles
southeast of Moab, UT is burning in brush and pinyon-juniper fuels. High
winds yesterday produced 30 to 40 foot flame lengths. A burnout operation
is planned for today.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN AREA LARGE FIRES:
BOSQUE, Las Animas County. A Type II Incident Management Team (Hartman)
has been ordered. This fire is in a steep, narrow canyon 24 miles west of
