>From NWS Tampa Bay:
=====
2.55" IS THE RECORD FOR THE DRYEST 1ST 5 MONTHS OF A YEAR, WHICH OCCURED
IN 1898. AS OF TODAY 5/23 THE 3.11" REMAINS 2ND PLACE...OR DRIEST SINCE
THE 19TH CENTURY" IF YOU PREFER.
=====
Here at my location in Plant City I've measured 5.89" between 1/1 and
5/23/00, the worst drought in my memory, thanks to the lingering La Nina
pattern and only 20.00" between 10/1/99 and 5/23/00.
Ironically I measured 66.49" between 10/1/97 and 5/23/00, due to El
Nino. Calender year 1996 saw 63.33", 1997 73.36", 1998 67.55" and 1999
53.33", with the La Nina influenced drought beginning.
The yearly mean temperature for 1996 was 69.0 deg, 3.3 deg below
normal, 1997 was 72.3 deg, exactly normal (no apparent global warming),
1998 72.1 deg, 0.2 deg below normal, 1999 71.9 deg, 0.4 deg below
normal.
By the way the hottest year average observed in Plant City was 75.1
deg in 1936 and the coldest 67.3 deg in 1977.
