Hey all,
A large area of freezing rain rolled across PA into NJ and NYC
overnight. 1/8 - 1/4" of ice has accumulated on just about all
surfaces. The trees and power lines around here aren't sagging nearly
as much as they were with the January 14-15, 1999 ice storm, but the
roads and sidewalks are very treacherous. We lost very little snow
cover from the ice buildup. The snow is compacted somewhat from it, but
very little snow melted when the temps jumped above freezing (into the
mid 30s) for a few hours last night.
CAA behind the low that formed of the NJ coast is what pushed the temps
back to at or below freezing last night, and was really interesting to
watch this as the area of freezing rain was fast approaching from PA.
Overall, this was a pretty good storm (for winter wx lovers like me). :)
