Snowstorm of Jan. 6, 1996

A storm system expected to bring an inch of snow to the RDU area and up to 6 inches in the mountains of North Carolina surprised residents of the Carolinas by bringing widespread snows ranging from an inch at the outer banks to two feet in the north carolina mountains.

  • Boomer, NC: 13"
  • Asheville NC: 10"
  • Raleigh, NC: 4"
  • Greensboro, NC: 9"
  • West Jefferson, NC: 27"
  • Kitty Hawk, NC: 1"
  • Atlanta, GA: 2"
