Heavy Snow Band Over CASI HQ 1/30/00 |
|
A very heavy snow band developed during the evening of January 30, 2000, just east of State College PA. The band was very narrow and trained over CASI HQ for about an hour, leaving three inches of snow. This 3"/hr observation by Jesse Ferrell was also measured by a meteorologist who lives about 1/2 mile to the North of CASI HQ. The storm totals the next day told the story, downtown State College totalling 3" with 6" here at CASI HQ. See the map below for storm totals.
The radar picture below shows the band as it set up SW of HQ. The red "X" denotes the location of CASI HQ. Notice on the 1.5 hour regional radar animation how the band trains over HQ, but misses downtown, just to the west. The band, up to 39dbZ, is even more evident on the a Local Radar Animation. All radar images courtesy CASI Member WeatherTap. See also the CASICAM Webcam animation from 6:30 to 8:30 pm... you can actually SEE the snow accumulating!
