Rain and (First) Snow Event at CASI HQ
|
|
The first minor snow event of the fall took place at CASI HQ at 8pm on November 15, 1999. We had flurries earlier this month but this was the first dusting on decks and vehicles, and partially in the yard. Here is a RADAR LOOP of the event. We are in the middle of the screen. See detail above and below. What was fascinating about this event was the difference from place to place. When I called over to CASI9 (my girlfriend's house) at 8pm to report the snow she reported all rain. It is interesting to look at the topography of the area map below and imagine what mesoscale effects might be taking place. *=TJ is CASI9 below, SC is State College (not shown below), HQ is CASI1 below, the circle for State College is nothing, it was misplaced by the radar company. The dot hanging off of it is KUNV below. Other observations from around the area at the time are below. CLICK ON A STATION FOR PERTINENT DATA. Not linked is AccuWx (AccuWeather HQ) and CASI9 which were not reporting and not pictured is Stormstown PA 3NE (CASI21) which was not reporting. KPSU is an automated station. CASI1 and CASI20 are amateur weather stations. More information on CASI 1, the CASI HQ Weather Station, can be found here.
