Wall Cloud / Funnel Cloud
Hastings FL 5/23/99

I took the pictures from the same gas station I sought refuge at during the hail storm. It looked as if the wall cloud was only 1,000 feet or so away. This was downtown Hastings, that is only 1 mile square, and has 1 four-way stoplight. I believe the time was around 5:10 PM Sunday evening. The storm grew very quickly, I would say in about 25 minutes before the rain began to fall. The temperature was around 91 or so, and very muggy. It looked as if the wall cloud was only 1,000 feet or so away. This was downtown Hastings, that is only 1 mile square, and has 1 four-way stoplight. About 20 miles from St.. Augustine, and about 6 miles from my house. This area is turning out to be my favorite place to stalk storms, especially between the farmers fields where I can escape, if necessary.
