Severe Thunderstorms of 5/25/98 in North Carolina
Several Severe Thunderstorms moved across NW NC on the afternoon
of May 25, 1998. Member Jesse
Ferrell's parents' house and his former residence were in the path
of the storms and were narrowly missed to the NE (this location is right
in the middle of the 3 warnings illustrated in red on the PSU page below).
Although thunderstorms are not uncommon in the area, they are less common
than in Eastern NC because storms coming from the west dissipate while
coming over the mountains. On this day the storms formed up against
the mountains and moved Northeast. Click here
for a complete list of Warnings for that time period.
