| I saw my first wall cloud and funnel cloud on March 20 this year
during the Ralegh tornadic supercell - a thrilling yet terrifying event.
I made the mistake of chasing too close to dark though, and almost paid
for it as the funnel passed nearly directly over me and other cars on
the 440 beltline. Luckily for us, it was not on the ground at that time,
as it had been 15 min. earlier in Holly Springs. I guess you probably
saw the local news video, shot by a Holly Springs resident, of the
descending multiple-vortex funnel. Thankfully, nobody was killed by the
storm, thanks in a large part to the NWS and to Greg Fishel, who did an
EXCELLENT job of relaying Doppler 5000 info to the public. |
