I was lucky enough to get the above shot with the video camera out the front windshield of my car at 6:45 PM, Mar. 5, 1997, on Hwy. 70 West between Raleigh and Durham.

The small picture above looks OK, the large capture below not so good, but you get the idea. It looked a lot more impressive on the video.

Although there are three yellow lights at the bottom of the lightning-lit area, try to ignore them; the light surrounding them was from the actual lightning. I won't comment on the interesting looking scud cloud hanging down toward the middle light ;)
